Escape the Permanent Underclass is a free, unofficial satirical browser game about trying to become financially secure before artificial general intelligence changes the economy. You begin in San Francisco with $12,000, 82 sanity, and 18 months to reach $5 million in liquid cash.

## How the game works

Create a character, then make one career move each month. You can apply to an AI lab, join Big Tech, work at a high-growth startup, found a venture-backed company, or build a lifestyle business. Every choice can change your cash, paper wealth, credentials, market hype, and sanity. The odds are visible, but the outcomes are probabilistic. A strong resume, useful network, founder history, traction, and prior employers can improve later opportunities.

Paper equity does not count toward the escape target until a secondary sale, acquisition, or IPO turns it into cash. If liquid cash reaches $5 million, you escape. If time or sanity reaches zero first, the run ends. A complete run usually takes only a few minutes and is designed to be replayed.
